Company: MIDNIGHT (Candle company that I made up)
Project: Self Project
Brief: Making a brand concept, logo and label for a startup candle company. The audience is people who enjoy serenity and celebrate their own time after a long day, and also people who are into minimal, aesthetic and trendy design regardless of age and gender.
Challenges: It was difficult to output what is in my mind to something visible in terms of the concept. However, I learned there is a way to express a certain mood or feeling with design elements such as colour, typeface and layout.
INSPIRATION
I imagined the moon above a serene ocean by the word of "serenity". I grabbed stripes from calm waves and distorted typeface from the smoke of a candle. Spending night alone sometimes makes me feel nostalgic so that I chose a dull colour palette to express a sentimental mood.
LOGO MAKING
I explored some typefaces, checking legibility and chose the number one (typeface: folks bold) with a crescent moon.
I adjusted balance, kerning, leading and worked on the safe area.
LABEL DESIGN
I chose the typeface of "folks bold" for the candle label and added stripes and warping effect on the typeface.
These are the final candle labels of 6 colours variation.
